  • Key Information 1980-86
    • 1980:The restyling that occurred for 1980 is so mild and subtle that unless a 1979 or earlier and a 1980 or later Ford Truck are parked side by side, it’s easy to miss the fundamental changes that occurred. Rather than softening the squarish styling of 1979 and earlier models, Ford’s 1980 and newer full sized trucks have an even crispier look, seen most prominently in the angled corner at the rear of the cab as well as a similarly angled opening at the rear of the doors. Taller side windows that dip below the base of the windshield as well as a taller windshield that now blends with forward edge of the cab roof mark the remaining, most visible changes.
    • 1981:There was no exterior styling changes made on the 1981 trucks. A premium sound system was introduced. An all new, compact size Ranger entered production in January of 1981.
    • 1982: The most noticeable styling change for 1982 was the removal of the Ford name from the face of the hood. It was replaced by the Ford oval in the center of the revised, rectangular slots theme grille. Also new were lubed-for-life ball joints and adjustable camber.
    • 1983: Styling was carried over from the previous year. As a means of saving horsepower and fuel, F-Series trucks came with a viscous type fan clutch. It engaged the fan only as needed. Standard features included, chrome front bumpers and bright door mounted mirrors. In 1983, Ford regained its traditional first spot in sales from Chevrolet. Sales of the F-Series Pickups gave that model the number one sales rank among all cars sold in the U.S. Ford’s F-Series models were simply America’s most popular vehicle of any type.
    • 1984: The F-150 was now Ford’s base light duty truck. Styling was carried over from last year. Among standard features were key-in-ignition warning buzzer and a parking brake engaged warning light.
    • 1985: Basic styling was unchanged for 1985 although optional bodyside moldings now started below the front side-marker lights. Standard features included Twin-I-Beam IFS (4X4’s had Twin-Traction Beam IFS).
    • 1986: The F-250 was only offered with the 8 foot Styleside box. F-Series conveinence options included carpeted lower door panels with map pockets and a soft wrapped steering wheel with wood-tone insert.

  • 1966-1996 BRONCO KEY INFORMATION
    • 1966 :The latest addition to the truck line was the four wheel drive Bronco utility vehicle. Built on a 92” wheel base, the Bronco was powered by the 170ci inline 6 and later in the year, the 289ci V8 became optional. The Bronco was available in 3 styles, the standard Bronco was the Roadster, with no roof or doors and a fold down windshield; the sport utility was a pickup with a bolted on, removable steel roof over the front seat; and the Bronco wagon came with a full length roof and large side windows.
    • 1967:New additions to the basically unchanged Bronco included variable-speed windshield wipers, padded sun visors, back-up lights, a dual master brake cylinder and self-adjusting brakes. The sports utility model is now called a pickup. A new Sports Package available for the wagon and pickup included bright horn rings, headlight bezels, tail light bezels, tailgate handle, windshield rails, instrument panel trim, side window frames, a grille, chrome plated bumpers with bumper guards, dual armrests, trimmed headboard liner, wheel covers, cigar lighter and a floor mat for the wagon.
    • 1968:The Bronco continued with the same body shell which now got side marker lights on the front and reflectors on the lower rear quarter panels. The front bumpers were new as well, featuring curved rather than squared off ends. The interior’s door handles and window cranks were improved, and a heater and defroster were standard. freewheeling front hubs and the Bronco’s swing away spare tire carrier were new.
